Environmentally friendly solutions for bottled water

You've probably seen pictures of beaches littered with plastic waste. Much of this waste comes from bottled water. We like to assume that a large proportion of these plastic bottles are recycled by recycling companies. But this assumption couldn't be further from the truth. Bottled water is one of the biggest polluters on our planet.

Additional water is needed just to produce bottled water. So it's not just about the water found in the bottle. It takes 3 to 6 liters of water to produce a 1-liter water bottle. Tap water is always the most environmentally friendly choice.

Chemicals

Plastic bottles contain the chemical bisphenol A (BPA). In small amounts, this can get into your drinking water when you drink from a bottle of water. Too much BPA is harmful to the liver, kidneys, and fertility and can affect your hormonal system. Under normal circumstances, only small amounts are found in water, which are not harmful. However, at higher temperatures, for example if you leave your bottle in the sun, the release of BPA into the water can increase. It is better to drink (filtered) tap water and store it in a glass or stainless steel bottle. These materials emit hardly any harmful substances.

Within the EU, there are certain standards for BPA. These must not be exceeded. According to these standards, we consume a “safe” amount of BPA. But of course, you want your water to be completely free of BPA. Filtered tap water ensures that you do not consume any BPA.

Think about the environment

Bottled water and all other bottled beverages are bad for the environment. Would you like to make a positive contribution to the environment? Then it is better to drink tap water. Preferably filtered with ZeroWater, because your body prefers pure water to optimally hydrate your cells. Would you prefer to buy bottled water? Then opt for a reusable bottle instead of a disposable one. This way, you protect the environment. Or reuse your bottle by refilling it with (filtered) tap water. Be sure to clean the bottle regularly with warm water and a little dish soap, preferably every day. This slows down bacterial growth. A water bottle can contain millions of bacteria if you don't clean it regularly.

Save money

German tap water is among the best in the world. Nevertheless, it does contain large amounts of contaminants. Think of dissolved solids such as lead, chromium, magnesium, iron, and calcium. However, you can save a lot of money by drinking tap water. If you use bottled water, you pay about 150 to 500 times more than if you drink water from the tap. Tap water is therefore better for your wallet. Of course, you want your tap water to be as pure as possible and free of harmful substances. By filtering your tap water with ZeroWater, you can ensure exactly that. This way, you can drink tap water in its purest form!
